sean halley has been actively making a living in some musical or musically technical form since he began playing live club gigs at 17.

years where he played 280+ gigs were not uncommon, in addition to the full-time studio life that began professionally in college.

in addition to writing and performing music for himself, he has also spent a lifetime on “both sides of the glass”.

he has produced a large number of indie pop and singer/songwriter records, sometimes playing all of the instruments but live drums. these projects range in genre from drop B metal and roots country, to torch pop and hip hop, with nearly everything in between (but he hasn’t done a zydeco project yet. anyone do zydeco?).

as a top-call session musician, he has appeared on record with such varied folk as Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, Vinnie Colaiuta, Richard Marx, Steve Ferrone, Michael Thompson, Greg Bissionette, Michael Manring, and Dan Tyack. his guitar playing has been heard on every major network, many popular video games, big hollywood movie trailers and radio. he was reportedly the first guitarist ever to win top soloist at the lionel hampton memorial jazz festival while still in college, and was running his own professional recording facility by the age of 23.

as a composer and arranger, he spent time writing orchestral music for major film trailers and sound libraries, radio and television ad music, and small string, brass, and vocal ensemble arrangements for records.

along with keeping a busy studio schedule, he is an application specialist/demo artist in pro audio at avid technology, and is the chair of the production department at los angeles music academy.

“the song and the music dictate the parts, not the musician. as they say in nashville: ‘there’s a song in the room, you just have to find it’”.
